ET538 Honeycomb Bonding Epoxy Adhesive

ET538 is a slow curing, two-part engineering-grade epoxy structural adhesive ideally suited to composite structure assembly such as bonding skins to core materials and general composite component assembly. ET538's high viscosity makes it ideal for hand assembly of aluminium and Nomex honeycomb core laminates.

24hr cure. Supplied in a twin cartridge pack (1:1 ratio, resin and hardener). Available to buy online in 50ml and 400ml cartridges.

Structural epoxy honeycomb bonding adhesive developed to provide a very high performance solution to ambient temperature cure bonding of aluminium honeycomb to a wide range of sheet materials including fibreglass, carbon fibre and aluminium.

Apply ET358 can be used as a standard, slow curing structural epoxy suitable for a wide range of bonding applications but it is especially effective for bonding fibreglass, carbon fibre, and aluminium skins to aluminium honeycomb core material to make a sandwich panel. Its rigidity, slow cure and high bond strength to a range of substrates mean that incredibly strong, reliable honeycomb panels can be produced without the need for special adhesive films which can only be cured at high temperature.

Pack Sizes and Dispensing

ET538 is a professional adhesive and is therefore sold in the standard 50ml Twin Tube pack which requires the standard type 50ml Twin Tube Dispenser Gun, available to buy separately. It is also available in a large 400ml trade size twin tube intended for production use. The 400ml requires a 400ml Twin Tube Dispenser Gun. Choose the pack size you require from the drop-down list at the top of the page.

Choose the correct mixer nozzle

In both pack sizes the adhesive is supplied with 1x Static Mixer Nozzle.

50ml cartridges require a 'Type 2' 50ml style nozzle whereas 400ml cartridges require a 'Type 2' 400ml mixer nozzles (with locking nut). Click below to buy the compatible cartridges for your chosen pack size:

There is no practical minimum bond thickness for this adhesive although you do need to ensure that *some* adhesive is present, which is why glass spheres are sometimes used to prevent the adhesive from being scraped off completely. Essentially though, as long as an even thin film is applied the bond strength between the two materials will be good.

Yes, certainly. In fact the easiest way to do this is to simply leave the static mixer nozzle in place after you use the adhesive. The adhesive that's in the nozzle will have been mixed and so will cure but the glue at the start of the nozzle will be unmixed and not cured meaning the nozzle will twist off perfectly and the glue inside will have been protected from the atmosphere and so will be perfectly preserved ready for use.

A typical application of the adhesive is approximately a 0.5mm thick layer. At this thickness, one 50ml cartridge would cover an area 30cm by 30cm; a 400ml cartridge would cover an area approximately 90cm by 90cm.

For best results when gluing over a large surface area, use a spreader to help ensure the adhesive is laid down in an even layer.

The best use of this adhesive is to spread it in an even and thin layer over the panel you wish to bond the honeycomb to. You should aim for a layer no more than 0.5mm thick using plastic spreaders or similar to even-out the adhesive. Spread thinly like that, one 400ml tube should cover approximately 1 square meter. Press the honeycomb onto the adhesive and gently move it around very slightly to ensure the glue forms a slight fillet onto the honeycomb cell walls to get maximum bonding surface area.

The shelf life of ET538 is 12 months from date of manufacture.

I used this epoxy adhesive to bond anodized aluminum inserts to carbon fiber. While holes are blind and inserts surface is smooth, I never experienced any bonding failure. Just carefully cleaned both parts with isopropyl alcohol before the bond. In my case, its slow curing properties really helps and let enough time for proper assembly alignement
