This heavyweight 650g 12k Black Stuff fabric is ideal for making up thicker laminates and especially suitable for carbon fibre tooling where its low cost can provide significant savings on thick carbon fibre moulds.

Easy Composites' Black Stuff carbon fibre is our famous line of 'no-frills' carbon fibre reinforcements. Black Stuff fabrics are 100% genuine carbon fibre reinforcements, with mechanical performance typical of a commercial grade carbon fibre.
This heavyweight 650g 12k version is ideal for carbon fibre mould making/tooling by resin infusion, or general use making up thicker carbon fibre laminates. This low-cost heavyweight carbon fibre cloth would also be use for conversion into tooling prepreg.
The huge savings are made possible because Black Stuff is produced at volume and speed without our usual stringent quality control, visual inspection and aerospace-grade traceability. The end result is that - for non critical applications - Black Stuff is the cheapest and best value carbon fibre you can buy.
Black Stuff carbon fibre is intended for use in non-visual applications, backing layers, mould making and general commercial use. It is not suitable for critical cosmetic applications, aerospace use or other uses where a CoC or fibre certificates are required.
In mechanical properties and general handling, Black Stuff is still a great performing all-rounder and is actually comparable to the general purpose 12k carbon fabrics sold by many suppliers.

One of the main reasons Black Stuff can be sold at around half the price of comparable products is because it is produced at higher speed and without visual inspection. As such, minor faults such as pulls/loops, broken fibres or some fabric distortion are normal and should be expected. Black Stuff is not sold as a cosmetic or visual-grade material.

Het koolstofweefsel zelf overleeft vele honderden graden en is niet de beperkende factor voor bijna alle toepassingen. De beperkende factor is de hittevervormingstemperatuur van het harssysteem waarmee je deze stof wilt lamineren.
Een tuimelaar-/nokdeksel kan gemakkelijk worden blootgesteld aan hete olie van ongeveer 120°C en aan hitte van de uitlaat die afhankelijk is van de motorconfiguratie en het afstellingsniveau. Daarom raden we je aan om een harssysteem met een hogere temperatuur te gebruiken, zoals onze Epoxy Lamineerhars voor zeer hoge temperaturen die, met de juiste uitharding, tot 180°C kan worden gebruikt.
Een alternatieve optie is om te overwegen het onderdeel te maken met een pre-preg koolstofvezel uit de autoclaaf, waarbij de harssystemen doorgaans een HDT tot 120 °C kunnen bereiken.
Voor zeer kritische toepassingen, zoals in de ruimtevaart, zullen zelfs droge koolstofweefsels een 'levensduur' hebben door de geleidelijke afbraak van de lijmen op de vezels. In de praktijk is de afbraak voor de meeste toepassingen echter minimaal en de meeste gebruikers zouden droge weefsels als niet houdbaar beschouwen als ze op de juiste manier worden bewaard.
Voor nat lamineren gebruik je ongeveer hetzelfde gewicht hars als het gewicht van de stof. Bijvoorbeeld, met een doek van 200 gsm heb je voor 1 vierkante meter 200 g doek en dus 200 g hars nodig om het nat te maken, plus een klein beetje afval voor de kwast en de mengpot.
De dikte van elke wapening is afhankelijk van de consoldatie (hoeveel het wordt 'platgedrukt'. Daarom geven we over het algemeen diktecijfers voor wanneer de wapening onder vacuüm (1 bar) wordt samengeperst; dit lijkt het meest bruikbare cijfer. Bijvoorbeeld, een 90gsm carbon, een enkele laag, samengeperst onder vacuüm, zou ongeveer 0,1mm dik zijn. Voor 200 gsm koolstof zou een enkele laag ongeveer 0,25 mm dik zijn. Dit is het getal dat je ziet onder 'dikte' in de specificatietabel.
Dit hangt volledig af van de wapening die je lamineert, met name hoe dik en zwaar deze is. Als je 5 mm koolstofvezel lamineert, gebruik je veel meer hars dan wanneer je slechts 1 mm lamineert. Gelukkig is er een heel snelle regel om een goede schatting te maken - tel gewoon het totale gewicht van je wapening op en je hebt waarschijnlijk hetzelfde gewicht aan hars nodig. Dit betekent dat als je 5 lagen van 200g koolstof lamineert (dus een totaal van 1000g koolstof), je ongeveer 1000g (d.w.z. 1kg) epoxyhars nodig hebt. Als het 2 lagen van 450g glas zouden zijn, dan zou je ongeveer 900g per vierkante meter nodig hebben.
Alle koolstofvezels zijn van nature houtskoolzwart van kleur.
