375g Kevlar Protective Loopbacked Fabric

Made 100% from genuine Dupont® Kevlar® fibre this 375gsm loopbacked Kevlar® protective fabric can be stitched into garments such as motorcyle clothing, t-shirts, luggage or equipment to add protection from a range of threats including knife slash, heat and road abrasion.

This terry towel-like fabric is quite stretchy and offers a good level of protection without being too thick, making it well suited to lining lighter garments like t-shirts.

This fabric is 1.5m (1500mm) wide and is sold by the linear metre or in smaller pre-packaged rolls.

This lightweight knitted Kevlar® clothing fabric is ideal for sewing into any garment to add a reasonable level of protection from abrasion, rips and slashes.

The fabric is soft and flexible and offers excellent stretch making it suitable for general use. The 'loopback' knitting (similar to towelling material) on one side gives the fabric additional thickness whilst keeping the weight down.

If you want to add the protection of Kevlar® to any garment such as a jeans, jackets, T-shirts or even underwear without adding too much weight or making the garment too warm then this is the right choice.

This is our recommended Kevlar lining for clothing, ideal for lining T-shirts, tops and jeans to improve their protective properties for motorcycle/motorsport use or add slash protection and slash resistance for clothing or burn protection to the same garments. A greater level of protection can be found in our Heavyweight Kevlar® Protective Fleece Fabric which would be recommended to add maximum protection to high risk areas. To sew into garments see our Kevlar Sewing Thread.

Typical Uses:

  • Add abrasion/rip protection to a pair of jeans for motorcycle use.
  • Add abrasion/rip/slash protection to a pair of gloves.
  • Add a slash proof liner for a T-shirt.
  • Heat/burn protection for a sleeve.

How to Buy

The Kevlar® fabric shown on this page weighs 375g/sqm. We can supply the protective clothing fabric in smaller cut pieces (30cm x 30cm or 30cm x 150cm) which are perfect for making small patches or adding protection to smaller garments such as gloves. For larger projects we can also supply the fabric directly off the 136cm wide roll by the linear metre. Orders for multiple metres will be shipped in one continuous roll, not multiple individual square metres.

When buying fabric by the metre the width of the roll is 150cm (1.36m / 59").

Further Information

Cutting Kevlar®

Kevlar® is VERY difficult to cut using normal scissors and this Kevlar fabric is one of the hardest of all our fabrics to cut in this way.

To cut this fabric we would strongly suggest a good pair of Kevlar Shears which will make light work of the task and leave a tidy edge on the fabric.

Can’t find the answer you’re looking for?Ask our technical team a question.

Yes, the fabric can be glued in place using fabric adhesives. However, for a stronger repair, we recommend the use of a Kevlar Sewing Thread which can be used by hand or in a sewing machine to stitch the material permanently to the garment..

Yes, a good quality domestic sewing machine should be able to sew this fabric without any problems.

Although I wouldn’t recommend washing and drying them as part of their daily lifecycle, any of our Kevlar Protective Textiles (with the exception of the Kevlar Protective Patch Material) would be OK to wash and dry. The Heavyweight Fleece and Loopbacked fabrics particularly would behave pretty-much like conventional fabrics. The felt I would be a little more concerned about because it doesn’t have the knitted construction to ensure it stays in shape/together.

An example of acceptable use would be lining motorcycle jeans in the loopbacked fabric and then washing that lining occasionally; I wouldn’t expect any problems or abnormal deterioration. However, an industrial application where they went constantly from wash to dry (like a Kevlar laundry bag) would be likely to deteriorate the material more quickly.

This material is not really designed to be used externally so generally the characteristic yellow colour of Kevlar should not be a problem because it would not be seen however in certain circumstances (vent areas etc.) where it would be seen your only option would be strong textile dies however, being a synthetic fibre it's difficult to get the dye to properly penetrate the fibre and so results when dying this fabric might be hit-and-miss.

Kevlar protective textiles can be machine washed using regular domestic or commercial detergents, ideally at 50-60°C. Normal detergents have a negligible effect on the strength of the product.

You must NOT use chlorine based bleaches as they will significantly damage the strength of the fabric.

We do NOT recommend washing the 'Kevlar Protective Patch' material.
