GCX Clear Polyester Spray Gel is a clear, low viscosity isophthalic NPG polyester gelcoat suitable for the manufacture of composite components such as boat hulls, hatches, decks, vehicle panels, architectural and general composite mouldings. GCX Clear Polyester Spray Gel is highly UV stable and can be used clear, for cosmetic carbon fibre or decorative laminates, or pigmented to any colour.
Requires MEKP catalyst, not included. Available to buy online in 1kg, 5kg and 25kg packs.
AVAILABILITY:1 in stock available for immediate shipping

Superior quality, UV stable, clear polyester gelcoat suitable for a wide range of gelcoating operations including use as a clear gelcoat for cosmetic appearance carbon fibre and other advanced materials.
Requires MEKP Catalyst, not included.
Typical Uses
It is widely known that for high performance structural applications using carbon fibre or other advanced reinforcements (aramid, UHMWPE etc.) more advanced resin systems, such as epoxy, should be used. There are however circumstances where the structural performance of a laminate is less important, and properties such as appearance, UV stability and cost are higher priorities. In these situations, a high quality polyester gelcoat resin can be used with carbon fibre reinforcement (often just a single layer, combined with additional glass reinforcement) to produce attractive, UV stable, carbon fibre finish laminates.
For the best results, we recommend a high quality clear polyester laminating resin and extensive use of a Bristle Roller to significantly reduce air entrapment and improve the cosmetic appearance of the laminate when working with a clear isophthalic gelcoat or npg gelcoat.

Compatibility Information - Dos and Don'ts
Although by no means an exhaustive list, the mould materials, pigments and additives listed below have all been tested and are known to work well with Superior Clear Polyester Gelcoat.

The reason we can’t ship MEKP outside of the UK is because it is highly oxidizing, and standard carrier services do not permit it to be transported.
However you can purchase MEKP from any suppliers of composite materials including fibreglass (GRP) shops, roofing suppliers, boat buildings, car bodyshops etc. There is nothing special about the MEKP we supply, you can ask at your local supplier for ‘Standard reactivity MEKP’; brands such as Andanox KP9, Akperox A30, Butanox M50 (Akzo Nobel) are all suitable and widely available.
This gel can be used for infusion with polyester or vinylester resins, it is not suitable for use with epoxy infusion resin. For epoxy resin we would recommend the GC50 Epoxy Compatible Gel Coat.
Using a gelcoat spray gun such as our CG110 a smaller 2mm nozzle would probably be best. Typically with that gun, the pressure should be between 60-100 ps.
Yes, when cured in air, this polyester resin (and most polyester resins) are cure inhibited by air so any areas exposed to air will cure with a slight tacky layer. The use of a wax additive, such as our MW1 wax additive, will ensure the surface cures tack free.
