Camino Camper Overland 4x4 Camper Project

The first campers designed and manufactured by Alex in composite materials were the Coati Campers. Built in Chile, these 4x4 truck campers are a popular sight on all Chilean overlanding routes.

With the experience gathered with the first model Alex recently launched the new Camino Camper. This improved model focuses on reduced weight, robustness and practicality with an elegant design both inside and out.

A construction in composite materials was chosen to combine durable, lightweight and aesthetic qualities. Camino Camper combines moulded fibreglass parts with sandwich panels to achieve its unique shell.

The moulds for the parts were constructed using the Easy Composite's Uni-Mould system. Firstly the patterns were created using a combination of 3D printed parts, foam and MDF to get the basic shape. These were then primed, painted and polished using Pattern Coat Primer and High Gloss to get a good quality to the finished pattern.

Once release coated, the moulds were completed by applying Uni-Mould Tooling gel coat, Coupling coat, Tooling resin and the corresponding CSM fibres. The finished moulds were high quality and ideal for making the campers parts.

The final parts are laid up by hand using a pigmented polyester gelcoat and polyester resin combined with a variety of fibres to make the finished panels. These panels are assembled to make the finished camper body before being fitted out and finished to give the completed Camino Camper
