Mylar verwijderbare folie 125 micron (914mm)

Mylar is a glossy, almost transparent polyester film which releases perfectly from cured resins, leaving a smooth, glossy appearance on cured laminates, such as wing skins. This substantial 125-micron (0.125mm) thickness is strong and robust and helps to smooth the surface of the laminate.

The film is 914mm wide and sold by the linear metre. Volume discounts apply and a full 100m roll is available.

Mylar Type-A polyester film in 125-micron thickness is a tough, glossy, semi-transparent film/sheet which can be used as a totally non-stick surface for a wide range of resins, including polyester, epoxy, vinylester and polyurethane.

At 125-micron the film is 0.125mm thick; much thicker than a traditional release film. This gives the film/sheet a durable toughness and also prevents it from stretching, allowing the film to be pulled tight over laminates like wing skins whilst maintaining its flatness and smoothing out the surface of the cured laminate.

When used as a release film, Mylar is suitable for use up to 150°C, making it suitable for use in elevated temperature cures, including prepreg applications, up to this temperature. When using the Mylar above ambient temperatures, we would recommend using a chemical release agent such as our CR1 Easy-Lease Chemical Release Agent to prevent the laminate sticking to the mylar film.

Typisch gebruik

In composites, Mylar film is most often used to provide smooth, glossy finish to wet-lay/hand laminates by applying the film directly to the wet laminate, and then easily removing once cured. One such application is when laminating reinforcement skins onto foam wing sections, for RC planes, motorsport and UAV wings.

Mylar film can also be applied over repairs to leave them with a smooth, flat finish. Mylar can also be laid over materials like wood or MDF to create non-stick surface and enclosures for resin casting and mould making and general laminating.

As well as composites applications, Mylar film at this weight is the material of choice for craft stencils and can be easily and precisely cut by craft knife or CNC plotter/cutter.

  • Laminating wing skins over foam
  • Leaving a smooth, glossy finish on wet-laid laminates or repairs
  • Making surfaces or enclosures that resin won’t stick to
  • Craft applications, especially decorative stencils

Kopen

Our Mylar release film is 914mm (91.4cm / 36") wide and sold by the linear metre. When a purchasing a quantity of more than one metre, the film will be supplied cut to length on one continuous roll. Enter the quantity of metres you require at the top of the page.

To protect the film and avoid creases, it is always supplied rolled around a core, never folded.

At Ambient temperature, no release agent is needed - the film just peels off after use. When using the Mylar above ambient temperatures, we would recommend using a chemical release agent such as our CR1 Easy-Lease Chemical Release Agent to prevent the laminate sticking to the mylar film.

The film has the same smooth glossy finish on both sides so release properties will be the same. Although a spray adhesive will tack it down to a surface, the bond strength is very weak and the film may well peel off or move relatively easily.
