Superior quality, Lloyds approved GPX Premium Polyester Laminating Resin recommended for fibreglass component manufacture such as boat hulls, hatches, vehicle panels and architectural mouldings.
This resin also has good clarity and bubble-free wet-out of carbon fibre cloth, making it a suitable polyester resin for the hand-lamination of cosmetic carbon fibre parts.
Requires MEKP catalyst, not included. Available to buy online in 1kg and 5kg tins.

Polyester laminating resin has been the staple product of the composites industry for years and is still widely used in traditional composites and basic mould making.
We only stock and sell a higher than standard grade of polyester laminating resin which is Lloyds approved (therefore suitable for boat making and boat repairs), UV stable, and very clear curing making it ideal as both a general purpose polyester resin and also suitable for clear laminating such as cosmetic carbon fibre parts.
Requires MEKP Catalyst, not included.
Typisch gebruik
It is widely known that for high performance structural applications using carbon fibre or other advanced reinforcements (aramid, UHMWPE etc.) more advanced resin systems, such as epoxy, should be used. There are however circumstances where the structural performance of a laminate is less important, and properties such as appearance, UV stability and cost are higher priorities. In these situations, a high quality polyester laminating resin can be used with carbon fibre reinforcement (often just a single layer, combined with additional glass reinforcement) to produce attractive, UV stable, carbon fibre finish laminates.
Our GPX Premium Polyester Laminating Resin offers particularly good wetting of fibres, specifically carbon fibres, meaning the 'wet-lay' or open lamination of carbon fibre parts can be undertaken whilst considerably reducing the problem of trapped air bubbles which often blight the cosmetic appearance of wet-lay carbon fibre laminates, It is also suitable as a fibreglass resin.
For the best results, we recommend a high quality clear polyester gelcoat and extensive use of a Bristle Roller to significantly reduce air entrapment and improve the cosmetic appearance of the laminate when working with a clear gelcoat.

The reason we can’t ship MEKP outside of the UK is because it is highly oxidizing, and standard carrier services do not permit it to be transported.
However you can purchase MEKP from any suppliers of composite materials including fibreglass (GRP) shops, roofing suppliers, boat buildings, car bodyshops etc. There is nothing special about the MEKP we supply, you can ask at your local supplier for ‘Standard reactivity MEKP’; brands such as Andanox KP9, Akperox A30, Butanox M50 (Akzo Nobel) are all suitable and widely available.
Yes, certainly, this is exactly the type of resin that is normally used to fibreglass a pond. You would ‘laminate’ the structure of the pond using a polyester resin, like GPX, combined with chopped strand mat glass reinforcement.
After this, ponds would typically be finished with a pigmented ‘flowcoat’ which is brush applied. Flowcoats are a layer of gelcoat that will cure hard and smooth (not tacky like a normal gelcoat) when applied onto a surface, like a pond, rather than a first layer into a mould. You can create a ‘flowcoat’ by adding Solution MW into a conventional gelcoat, such as GCX. You can also pigment the flowcoat any colour you want using a polyester pigment.
That would depend on the filament and whether you'd coated the print with anything before the resin comes into contact with it. Many 3D print filaments are dissolved by solvents and polyester resins, like GPX, contain styrene which is a strong solvent. In most cases, a better resin for use with 3D prints would usually be an epoxy, such as our EL2 or XCR. These resins contain no solvents and so don't attack 3D printed moulds or parts.
You might find that it's very difficult to use the GPX as a gelcoat as it has a tendency to fisheye as it is repelled from the release agent you have on the surface.
Our GCX would probably be a better option and if left to start curing and thicken slightly it can be brushed onto the surface, just be careful not to have it in the mixing cup for too long.
Yes, it's certainly a valid process to make glass reinforced composites (GRP) using the resin infusion process. However, rather than use a 'general purpose' polyester resin (such as the one listed on this page) it would be much better to use a resin system which is formulated for resin infusion, such as our IN2 Epoxy Infusion Resin (for higher performance laminates) or our IP2 Polyester Infusion Resin (well suited to less strength-to-weight critical applications).
The catalyst ratio is between 0.5% and 3% dependant on amount of resin being used, the ambient temperature and the pot-life and cure time you want. For a typical small job where you’re mixing up 1kg of resin for a repair and you want a 10min pot-life and you’re working in workshop temperatures of around 18°C then we would use 2% catalyst. Our handy Catalyst Dispenser Bottle is a convenient way to measure out these sort of quantities of MEKP.
Generally we would not recommend this polyester resin for skinning parts. We do not have any alternative polyesters that would be suitable, however we do have an epoxy resin ideal for skinning. The resin is our XCR Epoxy Coating Resin which is the same resin we supply in all our Skinning kits.
Our General Purpose Polyester Laminating Resin is an orthophthalic based Polyester resin system.
