Soft Filleting and Filling Wax

Soft, pliable yellow wax used to create smooth fillets and fill details in composite moulding. This soft wax is an alternative to the more traditional plasticine or modelling clay and is generally quicker to spread, smooth and finish. Naturally, being a wax, no resin system sticks to it.

Sold in a 325g or 650g block.

This soft yellow filling wax is extremely useful in pattern making and mould making where it can be used as a better alternative to plasticine for filleting, filling the gaps between sheets of sheetwax and general void filling or shaping purposes.

The filleting wax can be used for any fibreglass/GRP/FRP pattern making or mould making operation and is compatible with polyester, vinyl ester and epoxy resin.

The wax softens quickly as it warms in the hand and shapes more smoothly than plasticine, especially when filleting to create radiuses.

The wax is non-toxic and none harmful.

How to Buy

The wax is available in 325g or 650g blocks. Choose the block size you require from the drop-down list at the top of the page.

Yes, it's fine. No cure inhibition problems.

Yes, P2 Fast Cast is not known to react with the filleting wax nor does it stick to it, so you can use the two materials together.

Definitely not! The filleting wax is not suitable for high temperature use and should not be used in this way. The main problem being that the wax would melt at elevated temperature in the oven, especially under vacuum pressure.

Our Easy-Lease Mould Cleaner is a great choice for removing traces of wax from your moulds.

Our Soft Filleting wax has a melting point of 60°C.

For Plasticine you state that: "Although...quite firm at room temperature, it is still not rigid enough to use as a mould material in most situations. Any gelcoat applied to it would be liable to cracking if the mould flexed when reinforcement was added"

The situation would be quite similar for wax so, much like plasticine, we wouldn't really suggest using either of these materials to 'sculpt' a pattern which you will then lay mould making materials (gelcoat and reinforcement); however, it would depend on the size and shape of what you're making and how careful you were with the layup process. I could imagine being careful enough with the gelcoating and laminating to use either of these materials as a sculpted pattern if one was very careful about it.

Yes, in most cases the wax can be recovered from the mould/pattern and reused. Over time it will pick up dirt and as such will have a reducing lifespan as it gets dirtier, but generally speaking, clean wax can be reused a number of times.

I've worked on this product a few times now and I think it's really good. Soft enough to form it directly without having to heat it. The yellow color also makes it easy to see where it has been applied.

I am in the US which makes this product a bit expensive in relation to other alternatives for filleting product due to shipping and currency exchange. I have probably spent more money finding an alternative than if I had originally bought this. Even with currency exchange rate, shipping, and the cost of the wax this is the PERFECT consistency to make your fillets.
