Easy Composites has worked in conjunction with leading Italian vacuum pump manufacturer DVP to develop an exclusive vacuum pump intended specifically for the industrial vacuum bagging and vacuum degassing market. Necessary for the industrial market, the pump is engineered for continuous operation and delivers performance and reliability far exceeding that of general purpose vacuum pumps.

The EC20 is an oil-lubricated, rotary vane pump capable of achieving an ultimate vacuum level in excess of 99.95% and with a massive free-air displacement of 330l/m make it ideally suited to rapid degassing applications, very large resin infusion/vacuum bagging projects and centralised workshop vacuum systems. The optimised vacuum curve means its draw-down time can be up to 3 times faster than that of a conventional oil-bath type pump of the same stated free air displacement (CFM).

Unlike oil-bath vacuum pumps the EC20 features continuous gas ballast and exhaust mist eliminator to ensure that the exhausted air is almost entirely free from oil making the pump suitable for sensitive environments such as confined workshops, schools, universities and laboratories.

An integrated check-valve prevents oil and air back-flow when the pump is switched off making the pump easier to use and protecting it from user error.

The EC20 is supplied complete with an IEC socket and power-lead and an integrated power switch making installation quick and simple requiring only a standard domestic wall socket.

The EC20 really does represent the very best in light industrial vacuum pumps and will deliver years of reliable service and superior performance even in the busiest workshop or laboratory.

Typical Uses

  • Vacuum degassing (fast pull down)*
  • Centralised vacuum systems (permanent vacuum ring main)
  • Large-scale vacuum bagging / resin infusion
  • Resin transfer moulding (RTM/RTM Light)
  • Pre-preg / autoclave use
  • Large scale vacuum pressing / veneering

Please note: The EC20 is NOT suitable for use degassing materials with a high moisture content (such as plaster) or for vacuum drying without the use of a suitable inline moisture trap.

Further Information

Vacuum Degassing

The EC20 is recommended for rapid pull-down of large chambers for vacuum degassing; the fast pull-down being essential when working with highly reactive resins and silicones where achieving full vacuum inside the chamber quickly is critical.

This EC20's throughput of 330l/m means that it can pull a typical 26 litre degassing chamber down to almost total vacuum extremely quickly. For further details on pull-down times, see below:

International Use - 220-240V ONLY

Our EC.20 Industrial Composites Vacuum Pump is suitable for use in all countries and territories with a 220-240V mains supply. The pump is available with a choice of the most popular international mains plug types. Please choose the plug type you require from the drop-down menu at the top of the page.

This pump cannot be operated on a 110V mains supply such as in the USA or Japan.

Which Pump to Choose

Easy Composites offer two different sizes of vacuum pump. If you're not sure which one is right for you, here's some advice:

Our regular sized Composites Vacuum Pump is perfectly adequate for almost all small to medium sized resin infusion, vacuum bagging and vacuum bonding uses. We would suggest that for this type of use on parts up to the size of a small boat hull (rowing boat, kayak, vehicle panels.) then you would only need our regular sized pump. The regular sized pump is also suitable for vacuum degassing of a wide range of less reactive materials such as epoxy and silicone rubber where a very fast pull-down of the chamber is not necessary.

For very large or multiple vacuum bagging or infusion projects or vacuum degassing operations where a fast pull-down of the chamber is required then this larger EC20 pump is recommended.

The EC20 is also recommended for permanent centralised vacuum installations (vacuum ring main) and for use in environments where oil vapour/mist is unacceptable or undesirable such as schools, universities, confined workspaces or laboratories.

Vacuum Pump Oil

This type of vacuum pump requires VPO32 Vacuum Pump Oil to run. As supplied, the vacuum pump is empty of oil (to avoid leaking during transport) but is supplied with a bottle of suitable oil. This bottle contains more than sufficient to fill the pump to the correct level.

Accessories

The EC.20 vacuum pump, in standard form, is supplied complete and simply needs to be mounted in place and filled with the supplied oil before it can be used. The following accessories are available to assist with installation and operation in different settings.

  • Base plate with rubber feet - Stabilises the pump allowing it to be used free-standing
  • Exhaust Silencer - Reduces exhaust noise and protects outlet from debris
  • 1/2" BSP to 1/4" BSP Reducer - Allows for direct connection of 1/4" BSP fittings from 1/2" BSP
  • Additional VPO32 vacuum pump oil

Yes, connected to a suitable vacuum investment and casting machine, this vacuum pump would be perfectly suitable for supplying the vacuum to the chamber. Depending on the size of the equipment you would be connecting to, you might also consider our smaller EC4 vacuum pump.

It is not possible to control or change the level of vacuum the pump achieves directly, it's designed to run at full vacuum only. However it is possible to use a separate vacuum regulator to control the level of vacuum in connected apparatus (chamber, vacuum bag etc.). The regulator would sit between the pump and the bag/chamber and can reduce the level of vacuum on the 'set' side of the regulator. For most vacuum levels our compact SMC Vacuum Regulator could be used with our EC.20 pump, however, if you only need a very low level of vacuum (20% or less) then a higher capacity regulator would be required when used with the EC.20 vacuum pump.
